Ah. The myths.
But mind you, we do believe in Santa.
IT'S A CULT. SHROUDED IN SECRECY MALARKEY.
It's not. The only secret probably is that many people around the world won't know the names of Rotarians helping them live better lives! We don't take sides, politically or religiously. This is one family that accepts all.
IT'S A BOYS ONLY CLUB.
Truth be told, it used to be, when it started in 1905. Today, the contribution of women to Rotary has made the organisation a much stronger and dynamic entity. They are movers and shakers in clubs around the world and are well represented in leadership positions within clubs, Districts, on the national and international level.
DRESS CODE - SUITS. TIES. TOP HATS. POCKET WATCH.
Dressing up is a choice. Fact is, you won't be asked to leave a meeting because you're not looking like something out of the sets of Downton Abbey! We don't do dress codes for meeting up. Just be comfortable. And just be you.
YOU DO ROTARY WHEN YOU RETIRE.
Far from the truth! Access to this prestigious organisation that develops leadership skills while discovering the power of Service above Self starts from the age of 12! Young entrepreneurs, professionals - of diverse cultures, different beliefs are all part of this global family. Do realise that most of our members today joined when they were young. Growing old is natural. Thinking young is a state of mind.
ALWAYS THE AFTERNOON LUNCH MEETING.
Not quite so. Traditional clubs sometimes stick to an afternoon lunch meeting, week after week, primarily because it's habit. Younger satellite clubs, for example, meet in the evening. Once a month. Some meet for breakfast. Others just Zoom. Meeting up is not always a chore. It's an opportunity to unwind and have a jolly good fellowship.
